It's Canada's 150th Birthday on July 1st, this year! We have always been proactive with teaching our boys through reading. Over the past year or so, we've been collecting board books that are all about Canada! I've compiled a list of what we have, so if you're in need of ideas before Canada's Birthday, you can go out and grab some!

Why I Love Canada written by children of Canada! - This is a cute little book that is repetitive and follows the line "I love Canada because ...". This book highlights and celebrates all of the wonderful things about Canada!

Canada ABC written by Paul Covello - I love this beautifully illustrated book with bright colours and bold print! A great read for children of all ages!

Good Morning, Canada written by Andrea Beck - We were recently gifted this book and it's super cute! The book says good morning to many of Canada's symbolic features! It is a rhyming book with great rhythm.

Goodnight, Canada  written by Andrea Beck - I recently found this book at Winners! I love the rhythm and rhyme of this story as it starts out, and then we say goodnight to each Province and Territory in order of Time Zone!

ABC of Canada written by Per-Henrik Gurth + Kim Bellefontaine - This book describes symbolic bits of Canada in alphabetical order and includes bold illustrations, with a kid-friendly font. It is written by a husband and wife duo, and they dedicated the book to their son, Benjamin: how sweet!

Canada 123 written by Per-Henrik Gurth + Kim Bellefontaine - the couple is back again with this counting book! A great book to practice counting and learning about Canada!

The Twelve Days of Christmas in Canada written by Ellen Warwick - I love this book geared for higher primary/intermediate students. It is written in letter form in a child's point of view, and very descriptive of each province in an across-country trip!

We have started our Canada learning collection with the above 7 picture books, but I would love to have more! Books we would love:

We Live in Canada (lift the flap + touch and feel) written by Veronique Petit

Ride the Big Machines Across Canada written by Carmen Mok

A Northern Alphabet written by Ted Harrison

The Ferryboat Ride written by Robert Perry (released in August 2017)

We also celebrated Canada with the annual Sam Steele Days parade! The boys absolutely loved watching the floats go by and listening to all the music: they were mesmerized. Duke loved waving at everyone and Jude shook his Canada flag around!

Thanks for stopping by! How are you celebrating Canada's big birthday this year? There's always fireworks, but that's waaaay past our bedtime.

See you next time,
