I have been meaning to get back to blogging and update you all on the happenings in our life! We are currently 13 weeks along with baby #3 (pregnancy #2). Here's our story of how we found out...
It was Friday morning, at 6:30 a.m., I was getting up early to head into my classroom. I had just found out, the day before, that I had received a full-time permanent position. School was starting on Tuesday and I had a lot to do, plus pack for our labour day weekend camping trip. I had thought my period was supposed to arrive a few days ago, and it hadn't. A couple weeks prior, I had actually thought my period came early because I had some weird spotting (which I know assume was Implantation bleeding). I had actually taken a pregnancy test two weeks earlier too, but it said negative (now I know, I was too early).
So, on Friday morning at 6:30 a.m., I decided to take a pregnancy test so that I could put my mind at ease and move on with the day. For some reason, as soon as I peed on the stick, I had a gut feeling that I was pregnant. I finished my business, washed my hands, and started to wash my face to pass the time. After a couple minutes, I turned the stick over, and there it was, clear as day: PREGNANT. I rushed into the nursery where Tim was changing the boys' diapers and just shoved the test into his face. We were pretty giddy at first and hugged, but we were also in total disbelief. I had JUST gone off my BC a month before (because of the Candida... if you've been following my journey, you know about this). My period had also been irregular since using the Nuva Ring back in the Spring. I had honestly believed we wouldn't get pregnant so quick. We had made the commitment of no BC for my health, but knew that becoming pregnant was a definite possibility.
Of course, I called my mom right away, and she was pretty startled, as it was early and she was sleeping. I was just in such shock. But then, we knew we had to keep moving on with our day because we had so much to do.
Later, I called to make a Doctor appointment to confirm the pregnancy. I had calculated how far along I was, and I had a pretty good idea. I went into work for a few hours, and realized why I had been feeling nauseous for a few weeks ( I had just thought I was nervous about work and interviews!! ... nope, hello morning sickness!).
I went into the doctor, did a urine sample, and yup, I was pregnant. I chatted with my dr. a bit and she schedule an ultrasound. At this point we guessed I was around 6 weeks pregnant, maybe a bit more. I worried "What if it's twins again?" My doctor didn't think so, but did say, "Well if anyone can handle twins, it's you!". I assured myself that it couldn't be another set of twins.
Two weeks later, exactly we had out ultrasound: ONE BABY, and we were 8 weeks and 4 days along! Wow, much further than I had thought. I was relieved! We were so close to 12 weeks! We saw that the heartbeat was strong and my mom came along and she was amazed at the little bean growing inside me! Ultrasounds are truly special.
At 10 weeks 3 days, we had our first prenatal appointment. I forgot how thorough and long that first one is! Our doctor didn't want to try for the heartbeat in fear that it was still early and we might not hear it. I pushed and said, "let's give it a go anyways". So for a few minutes, we only heard my steady heartbeat, and within seconds of wishing to hear the baby's, pitter patter went the heartbeat and it was music to my hears! Hearing the heartbeat is so magical and the best sound in the world. The heart beat was about 160 bpm.
On Friday, I had all of my blood work and urine samples done. We have our second prenatal appointment at 14 weeks 2 days, hopefully all will be looking (and sounding) well!
My next post will be a little review of my first trimester (round two!). Stay tuned.
Thanks for joining me on this journey,
MRS. + MAMA
