I found this Q&A online, and thought it'd be a fun one to fill out for the blog! I'd love to hear YOUR answers to the questions in the comments' section below!
NAME: Taylor Lin Haine
AGE WHEN YOUR TWINS WERE BORN: 28
WHERE DO YOU CURRENTLY LIVE? Cranbrook, BC (many, many twins are born here)
HOW FAR ALONG WERE YOU WHEN YOU FOUND OUT YOU WERE EXPECTING TWINS? 7 weeks. Read the story here.
ANY ISSUES DURING YOUR PREGNANCY? For me personally, it was dealing with the anxiety of something going wrong. Early on I had some bleeding which was scary, but that's how we found out we were having twins! There was always a risk involved with twins that one twin may get more nutrients than the other and start to outgrow the other. We experienced this around 33/34 weeks? It appeared that Baby A was 1/2 lb. heavier than Baby B. We were sent to Calgary, AB to have a detailed scan. They found that yes, Baby A was larger than Baby B, but not enough to have an early delivery at 34/35 weeks. Then later at the end of pregnancy (36 weeks 3 days), I was diagnosed with preeclampsia. The only treatment and cure for preeclampsia is to get the baby (or babies!) out. I had major swelling in my legs and feet and I had started to see stars whenever I got up to fast. These were warning signs that I should've payed closer attention to. It was during an NST when my blood pressure was measured (very high!) that we started to look into what was going on.
MEMORABLE/FUNNY MOMENT WHILE PREGNANT: I would have to say that the best things for me were hearing the heartbeats, feeling and seeing the babies move, and for seeing the HAIR on the boys' head during a late ultrasound.
Also, sharing my pregnancy journey with my Grade 4 students was amazing. They were so excited, curious, and loving towards the babies. The day I told them I was expecting twins was so much fun! I played the game 26 Lies and 1 Truth (based off of 2 Lies and 1 Truth). I wrote out statements that were ridiculous and completely false, and then wrote one "Mrs. Haine is pregnant with twins!" on one paper. Each piece of paper went into a balloon which I blew up and put on their desk. They had to pop their balloon and then come to our Meeting spot with their paper. We went around the circle and each read out our statement. There were lots of giggles! We then decided which we thought were totally untrue, like, Mrs. Haine wears glasses to school everyday, and kept the ones that could possibly be true. It was so much fun and the best Morning Meeting we've ever had! We finally narrowed it down and the kids we SO excited! I brought the ultrasound images that I had from 7 and 12 weeks to show them. They had so so many questions and they were just so thrilled. I played another game with them when I revealed the babies' genders. Again, SO fun!
LOOKING BACK, WHAT IS ONE THING THAT YOU WOULD TELL YOUR PREGNANT SELF? I would tell myself to worry less and enjoy more. I would encourage myself to take more pictures during the pregnancy journey. I would tell myself not to worry so much about weight gain, since I was lucky it disappeared! However, I would encourage my pregnant self to have exercised more (I did walk, do yoga, and ballet barre) and eaten cleaner. I would tell myself that it was OKAY to have taken medication for the morning sickness. I was stubborn with this, and I think I could've enjoyed the first trimester more if I had hadn't felt so terrible. There are many things I could tell myself, but it is what it is, and it was MY journey!
HOW MANY WEEKS/DAYS WERE YOU ALONG WHEN YOUR TWINS WERE BORN? 36 weeks 2 days.
BABY A'S INFORMATION:
Duke Robert Haine
May 19, 2016
6 lbs. 3 oz.
BABY B'S INFORMATION:
Jude James Haine
May 19, 2016
5 lbs. 11 oz.
ARE YOUR TWINS IDENTICAL OR FRATERNAL? Fraternal - Each had their own placenta and sac. There is a small chance they could be identical, but we'd have to get genetic testing done.
C-SECTION OR VAGINAL DELIVERY? C-section (and PROUD of it!). Read the full story here.
ANY NICU TIME? No, thankfully not. We were however, in the hospital for a week after the boys were born. Read the full story here.
DID YOUR TWINS STAY WITH YOU IN THE HOSPITAL ROOM AT NIGHT, OR DID THEY GO TO THE NURSERY? We had amazing nurses who offered to look after the twins in the nursery at night. Usually the boys were go to the nursery around 11 p.m. and come back around 6:00. We would get woken up from the nurses about every 3-4 hours to feed the babies. Most of these nights were tough and a bit of a blur. We are thankful for some hours of sleep with no babies! They did stay with us one night when they were under the lights to get their bilirubin levels up. The light was SO bright and we didn't sleep well that night! Well, we didn't sleep well for the first 2.5 months haha.
WHAT ARE 3 THINGS YOU ARE GLAD YOU HAD WITH YOU HAD THE HOSPITAL?
1. Our own pillows and blanket
3. Food from our family and friends!

IF YOU HAD ONE PIECE OF ADVICE FOR EXPECTING TWIN MAMAS, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Get lots of help for those first couple months! I still rely heavily on my parents and in-laws for help during the day. When you have twins, you usually can't comfort them both at the same time, so I hold one, and a grandparent holds the other. Also, reach out to other twin mamas! Twins are so different than singletons. If you have twins or are expecting twins, follow me on IG and Snapchat: I'd love to chat! Also, do things that bring you joy. In the first couple months I got my nails done once a week. It was an hour away from the babies, and having my nails done made me feel "put together". Then, in the fall, I started going to a spin class once a week. I now go 2-3 times a week and it's SO good for my mental health!
I'd LOVE to hear your answers to the questions above, whether you have twins or a singleton! We're all mamas, and we're all in this together! You're not alone.
I've included some of my favourite pregnancy pictures below. Most of them are selfies, because if you've ever felt like a beached whale before, you know what it's like to get the perfect picture (angle, lighting, face!).
Thanks for reading!
